Looking back on 2016, it’s been one hell of a year. I went from wishing I lived in a better city, to actually living out a dream of mine (moving to the South); from being around family and friends that have been there for years, to having to make new ones in a brand new city that turned out to be some of the best friends I could ever ask for. I went from wishing I had a creative outlet and having no clue what I could do, to simply listening to a friend’s advice to follow my passion, thereby creating this blog. Writing and beer, I don’t know how I didn’t see it before but it’s something that flows naturally. I’ve always been a writer, and this just kind of made sense.
Beer is great. It’s an ice breaker, a conversation piece, a gatherer of friends, a hobby and sometimes it’s even your life. No offense against liquor and wine, I enjoy a good mixed drink or glass of wine now and again, but there’s something about beer that is special. There are tasting festivals, food pairings, tours of breweries, events centered around beer, almost anything you can think of that would involve beer, does! It helps you meet people because there’s already a common ground, and expands the friendships you already have. Some people just drink beer because they like it and they don’t bother with knowing what goes into making it or where it came from, and some people (like myself) research and learn because it’s something that just seems too cool not to know. Either way, you’re doing something that is enjoyable and rewarding to you.
In this holiday season, we reminisce on what has happened throughout the year – our triumphs, failures, works in progress, and the people who were around us through it all. Never forget where you came from and how you got to where you are now, and always, always strive for something. A stagnant life is like stale beer, nobody wants it. I can’t thank the people (and pup) in my life enough; you make this life worth living and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you! So here’s to the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. May your year be filled with friends, family, health, happiness and of course, beer!
